Kings Tamerton Community Association Football Club was formed in 1984/85 and joined "The Plymouth and District League" later to become "The Plymouth and District Combination League". The Club started with one team and later progressed to running two sides. There was limited success with two Devon Cup Semi Finals, and each team gained promotion, the highest Division 2 status. The B side (although the Club was not sharing players) won two league titles and three league cups.
In 1996 Kings Tamerton lost one of its teams and carried on for a short time in Div 4. Due to a lack of support and people to take part in the running of the side, the team moved and renamed to The Weston Mill Hotel. That year they went on to win the "Devon Intermediate Cup Final", unfortunately Kings Tamerton's name does not appear in the honours list.
In 1997/98 Miles Bidgood was bought in by local side The Fellowship Inn of "The Plymouth Sunday League", the Club were about to withdraw from the league. Lack of support and finance meant the running of the club had become almost impossible. With the help of different fund raisers they managed to complete the season. It was suggested the Club reform as Kings Tamerton CA Football Club. It was agreed by the few members that were left and welcomed by The Kings Tamerton Community Association. Kings Tamerton C.A.F.C. were back in business.
The next task was to re-appoint Andrew Batten as Club Secretary.....arm twisting was required but we got our man, the Club has not looked back.
Kings Tamerton finished runners up in Div 2 of the Plymouth Sunday League 1999 / 2000 and gained promotion to Div 1 of the newly formed Plymouth & West Devon Sunday Football League, this league was formed for the start of the 2000 / 2001 season and is made up of Plymouth's two old Sunday leagues...The Plymouth Sunday League and The West Devon Sunday League.
The club is financed by Fund raisers which take place in The Kings Tamerton Community Association Social Club, a raffle every Sunday (thanks to Terry and Barb Swift) and a annual Presentation Buffet Dance that is always well supported. The Tamarside Community College provides our home pitch which is located right beside the Clubhouse....ideal. We are always on the lookout for new players and supporters so pop along and make yourself known.
